WE STRIVE TO SEE THE WORLD FROM A KIDS-EYE-VIEW
Bellwoods Playschool uses a child-centred, socially conscious pedagogy to engage young children in social and artistic thought and action. Using what the city has to offer, we empower our students with the knowledge to be socially and environmentally responsible citizens while they develop into explorers of their urban landscape.

WE THINK OF THE CITY AS OUR CLASSROOM
A valuable aspect of the Bellwoods Playschool program is to empower children as navigators of their city. We journey on regular excursions, by foot and by public transportation, to art galleries, museums and cultural events, as well as markets, parks and city landmarks.

WE KNOW ITS TAKES A VILLAGE

Our Playschool runs on a model that links a range of artists together to engage and inspire children. We like to bring in different perspectives and actively pursue a diverse teaching staff. As such, professional educators and artists trade chalkboards for personal anecdotes and textbooks for real life experiences. Together, they create an atmosphere that is at once intellectually stimulating and deeply personalized.

Camping Day!

Camping in Dufferin Grove Park! We brought a tent to the park and all worked together setting it up.  It was a great place to hang out, tell stories and relax after playing in the playground. We made the most out of our camping day with a marshmallow roast at the fire pit later in the day too. How cool is that?!  We are very thankful to have such wonderful community parks in our city where we can have fun days like this.

In our community

On route to Dufferin Grove, we met some workers taking care of our neighbourhood trees. They were friendly and told us about their job, equipment they use and how old the trees around us were!  The workers were busy cutting down old branches so that new ones could grow in their place come springtime! They looked like spiderman way up in the trees!

 Building, building, building...

September Fun!

We had a super fun time making tie-dye shirts! We went through the steps and then waited a whole day for the shirts to absorb the dye. We were so excited to open up our shirts the next day at play school and be amazed!

Each of us very carefully and thoughtfully, chose the colours and design we wanted for our shirt and went to work.

Opening up our shirts! So cool!!

Making our 'Lion Wolves' Banner!
We have been becoming great friends this month through learning, helping and having a blast with each other.
We went to Yonge-Dundas Square to see local soul musician, Tanika Charles and her band.  It was a beautiful day for an outdoor concert and we soaked it all up! It was great fun identifying all the instruments and then listening for their unique sounds. This was a great introduction to music and discussion around genres and different instrumentation.

Back to School!

We are so happy to be back! Fall is upon us and 'The Lion Wolves' are ready to have fun and take care of their fellow pack members. They decided that 'lions' were a good name since we all want to stay together as a pack, have fun, be loyal and brave friends this year. Such wonderful ideas! What a wonderful way to start the year!

On our walk home, we sit on the corner and close our eyes trying to pretend what it would have been like with the Garrison Creek flowing beside us.
We also pass by the YMCA on our walk and have taken to stopping in front for a little song and dance!

Having a look at the chickens that live on Lisgar!
