Bellwoods Playschool uses a child-centred, socially conscious pedagogy to engage young children in social and artistic thought and action. Using what the city has to offer, we empower our students with the knowledge to be socially and environmentally responsible citizens while they develop into explorers of their urban landscape.

WE THINK OF THE CITY AS OUR CLASSROOM
A valuable aspect of the Bellwoods Playschool program is to empower children as navigators of their city. We journey on regular excursions, by foot and by public transportation, to art galleries, museums and cultural events, as well as markets, parks and city landmarks.

WE KNOW ITS TAKES A VILLAGE

Our Playschool runs on a model that links a range of artists together to engage and inspire children. We like to bring in different perspectives and actively pursue a diverse teaching staff. As such, professional educators and artists trade chalkboards for personal anecdotes and textbooks for real life experiences. Together, they create an atmosphere that is at once intellectually stimulating and deeply personalized.

August 15-19 2011

Oh Man!!!! High Park was so fun and funny!!! We got to check out the Zoo not to mention the magical castle playground! What fun! Next week is the last week of camp so lets see if we can top the days we've had so far! See you all in the last week of camp!

August 8 - 12 2011

Public spaces... Public art... We did it all this week! The kids developed some beautiful interactive art with ribbons and string in Trinity Bellwoods Park. We also spent an afternoon concocting some slime and then making some silly videos. Tremendous fun for all!!

This week was a super fun!!! Our time was spent researching public spaces and the differences of neighbourhoods around the city. We also got a chance to experience some the unique aspects of the different neighbourhoods we visited.

July 26-29 2011

Oh Man!!! We had a blast this week! animation galore trips around the city and two days at the NFB Cinematheque! We also had the chance to make movies during the week they are absolutely awesome!! July 4th - 8th

Hello there all you Bellwooders. What a wonderful week we have had. Your little ones were a pleasure to spend time, and get re-acquainted with. The first two days with Angel were filled with drawing and reading and some fun with the locals at Fred Hamilton Park.





Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with Ted was a crazy time with some good ol' fun at Sunnyside beach, some song writing and painting at the studio (there was also a huge bug that we found and made quite a stir amongst the youngsters). We dug into the the archives and found some old footage of some kids playing at sunny side and we thought it would be fun for you folks to see it
